MORPURGO, ENRICO (Udine, 1891 - Udine, 1969)
Intellectual
Enrico Morpurgo was a Jewish Intellectual descending from the Udinese branch of the Morpurgo family. He founded the Historical Society of Friuli and he was a member of the Philological Society of Friuli. In the period of the anti-Semitic persecutions he fled to Switzerland. In his testament, Enrico decided to give his house in Savorgnana Street (Valvason-Morpurgo Palace) to the municipality of Udine, with the purpose of creating a Museum, and he decided to donate the other buildings he owned to the Civil Hospital of Udine. The house of Savorgnana Street guarded important frescoes and many books, which were sent to the Civic Museums of Udine after the racial dispositions, thanks to Carlo Someda de Marco.
